After B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (Light Current) from IIT Madras in 1969 with first division, joined Ahuja Radios, New Delhi for slightly more than a year, while working simultaneously on Electronics For You magazine with their permission. After leaving Ahuja Radios, started 3-4 more small firms for odd jobs. Then left everything else to focus on Electronics For You magazine when its circulation started picking up around year 1975. Later, added Facts For You magazine with the help of my dad, S.P. Chopra, and then 'i.t.' on Information Technology and ePower on electronic power sources like inverters, UPSes and batteries. Also introduced several books and electronics annual directory, which became quite popular as a reference source. Then launched electronicsforu.com and some websites associated with the magazines. Most of all, I was successful in setting up a sound base for EFY's growth by arranging proper infrastructure with offices all over India (Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkota, besides HO in Delhi) and reps in Chennai, Hyderbad, Pune, Ahmedabad, etc. And a strong team of editorial as well as sales people. Later when Rahul, my elder son, joined EFY, added magazines like BenefIT, Electronics Bazaar and Linux For You (now called Open Source For You). Also, with the help of a strong team of EFYians, we added events like EduTech, EFY Expo, OSFY Days, Electronics Rocks, EFY Awards and EFY-ELCINA Awards. Some of these, and iotshow.in, are being clubbed under India Electronics Week now. In EFY, we have also added portals like efytimes.com and eleb2b.com, and several other online properties. EFY is also present strongly over social media and related technical communities now. The latest addition in EFY is the hand-on training division for high-tech skill development. It is still in its nascent stage, but it has scope for tremendous growth, if we are able to implement our plans well. Launched Kits'n'Spares, so that the readers could get the PCBs and some difficult-to-get components for their projects published in EFY magazine. Also, helped in launching IT Soultions India Pvt Ltd, which is being run by my younger son, Nakul, and is able partner, Ravi Talwar. Have won some industry awards and recognitions, but the greatest awards I get is from the readers who appreciate our work. Am a fellow of The Institute of Electronics & Telecommunications Engineers, besides being a memebr of some industry associations. I am father of two very able sons and four grand children. Both my daughters in law are very capable in their own fields of interest. I can say, I am proud of my family and most of all my parents, who never let me feel anything lacking in my life and always gave me their full support. Both my sisters have also helped me in buidling EFY. Besides my family, I have been fortunate to get the support of many people who have worked diligently in EFY. Some of them have spent almost their whole carriers with EFY! What more can you ask for in a life-time?
